WARMUP:
A small red brick was placed in the table for reflection

THE THANG:

Kicked off with a gut-check: if people watched only your ordinary Tuesday, not your Sunday morning, what would they conclude you’re devoted to?

Then reflecting on the brick — great men aren’t built in dramatic moments, they’re built in ordinary moments repeated thousands of times.

“Are we running towards a foundation or a fault line?”

Paul reminds us to keep the end in mind in 2 Timothy 4:7 – I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I HAVE KEPT THE FAITH!”

Keeping the main thing the main thing — Lifestyle Words

Read 1 Corinthians 16:13-14 — be watchful, stand firm, act like men, be strong, do everything in love.

Pointed out none of those are one-time events. They’re lifestyle words. Bricks, not fireworks.

Spent time on that last word — love. Defined it as the sacrificial zeal that acts on behalf of the true good of another. Love isn’t convenient, and it isn’t reserved for those who deserve it. Loving your neighbor as yourself is hard — sometimes a real sacrifice — but it seeks the true good of another because we’re all children of God. Some are lost. But like the Good Sheperd leaving the ninety-nine for the one, teaches us that even the one sheep matters.

Read 1 Corinthians 4:2 — it is required of stewards that they be found faithful. Not success. Not influence. Not perfection. Faithfulness.

Read Revelation 2:10 — be faithful unto death, and I will give you the crown of life. Faithfulness isn’t until things get hard. It’s especially when things get hard.

Obadiah — Two Kinds of Men
Obadiah is one chapter, and it’s not really about judgment — it’s about two kinds of men. One shaped by pride, one shaped by God. That obedience is what separates them.

Obadiah 1:3-4 — Edom trusted comfort, position, strength. Pride always says “I’ll be okay, I don’t need God today.”

Obadiah 1:11 — on the day you stood aloof. Edom wasn’t judged for attacking first. They just stood and watched. We went deeper on this one: standing aloof isn’t just refusing to do wrong — it’s refusing to do good. It’s standing at a distance, staying detached, watching without getting involved. Passivity is often the most respectable form of disobedience. It doesn’t look like sin. It looks like doing nothing. That’s exactly what makes it dangerous — nobody confronts a man for standing still.

Obadiah 1:12-14 — “you should not” repeated three times. They watched, then they celebrated, then they benefited. Sin doesn’t arrive all at once. Faithfulness is lost one small compromise at a time.

Handed out take aways for the PAX – “Man of Edom / Man of God” side-by-side — pride vs. humility, self-preservation vs. sacrificial obedience, fear vs. faith, etc.

Application

Culture celebrates highlights. God watches habits.

• David was faithful with sheep before he faced Goliath.
• Daniel was faithful in prayer before he stood before kings.
• Jesus had thirty hidden years before three public ones.

God forms men in private, brick by brick, where nobody’s watching.

@Sharpie shared his perspective: the hardest and most important part of building a house is the foundation. Nobody sees it. Nobody’s impressed by it. But everything above ground depends on it.

Reminding us of the brick question — are you running toward a foundation, or a fault line?

Every brick of daily obedience either sets you deeper on solid ground or adds weight on top of a crack you haven’t dealt with.

We also discussed: the church is a hospital full of broken people who need Jesus — we need to focus not on “always getting it right” but rather on grace and faithfulness, not performance.

Brick reminder: the world remembers moments, God builds men through habits. Don’t chase an extraordinary moment this week — be ferociously faithful in the ordinary.
