Psalm 34:1–22
This morning we gathered around a simple challenge: Taste first.
Before opening Scripture, every man sampled a bit of honey—a reminder that some things cannot simply be explained; they have to be experienced.
David invites us in Psalm 34:8, “Taste and see that the Lord is good.”
The surprising part? David didn’t write those words from a mountaintop victory. He wrote them after one of the most humiliating moments of his life—running for his life, afraid, pretending to be insane just to survive. Yet his opening declaration wasn’t complaint, fear, or self-pity:
“I will bless the Lord at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth.”
Today we wrestled with an important truth:
Praise isn’t a reaction to favorable circumstances—it is a decision made in the middle of difficult ones.
We discussed where praise feels hardest in our own lives, the difference between praising God after deliverance versus while still waiting for it, and whether we’ve settled for merely knowing God is good instead of truly tasting His goodness through daily trust and obedience.
Then we paired up, shared honest burdens with one another—not trying to fix problems, but encouraging one another to choose praise in the midst of them.
Each man left with a plastic spoon in his pocket or as an eye patch :rolling_on_the_floor_laughing:, the reminder of the honey which in a simple way says:
Praise isn’t reserved for the days when life tastes sweet. Praise is what trains our hearts to taste and see that God is good—even in the middle of the struggle.
