After 4 tries at a promotion inside my company in the last 2 years, and 4 times being just passed over I had one more opportunity. I remembered all the discouragement from the past trying and failing. Then as I’m preparing for my 5th try at a promotion, the one I desired most of all, Jesus brings me to the following verse:

Revelation 3:7-8 “..What he opens no one can shut, and what he shuts no one can open. I know your deeds. See, I have placed before you an open door that no one can shut. I know that you have little strength, yet you have kept my word and have not denied my name.”

I heard this clearly from the Lord that no matter what, I can’t do anything to close a door that God has opened and I can’t do anything to open a door that God has closed. All I do by striving is try to either open a door that God closes, or make sure I don’t do anything to close a door that God has opened. This scripture reminds me that my purpose on this planet is not to strive after the things of God but to live this life with Him, for Him, and to Him. There is a lot of peace in living life from this from this perspective.

I finally got the promotion, but it wasn’t by my striving. God placed me in the exact place he needed me to be to walk through a door that He opened that I could not close.

God invites us to live with Him, for Him, and to Him. What does that look like in your season?
