Prayer – in preparation of reading God’s word
THE THANG:
THE CROWN — Calling (Zechariah 6:9–15)
The crown was fashioned from silver and gold collected from the remnant of Israel fresh out of Babylonian exile – fashioned for a Preist-King, namely Jesus!
– The crown is placed on Joshua as a symbol of God’s chosen leadership.
– Points to Jesus — the true Priest-King who builds God’s house.
Takeaway: Every man is crowned with purpose. God calls us before He gives clarity.
1. What calling has God placed on you right now?
THE CHAIR — Obedience (Zechariah 7:1–7)
God has a role for each of us – like an empty chair representing our role, our responsibility, for God’s glory…what will we do with that!
– Israel practiced rituals but didn’t sit to listen or obey God’s plan or purpose for them.
– God asks, “Were you fasting for Me or for yourselves?”
Takeaway: You can’t carry the crown if you won’t take the seat. Obedience comes before assignment.
2. What are you avoiding in your life…the calling or obedience? Whqt gets in the way of this for us as men?
THE HEART — Motive & Transformation (Zechariah 7:8–14)
God wants our guts & not our “buts”. We are called to be obediant. Israel has been in a sin cycle through Judges, the nominee prophets, etc. – we are no different…in order for new Jerusalem or the temple of Israel (it’s people) to be used – God is calling for heart change…our heart posture to be aligned to His purpose and plans!
• God calls Israel out for hard hearts, injustice, and self-interest.
• Ritual without love becomes rebellion.
Takeaway: God isn’t after performance — He’s after a surrendered heart that reflects His character. What does odediance look like according to God? Micah 6:8 & Zechariah 7:9-10
– Kindness
– Mercy
– Don’t oppress those less fortunate in the community
–
Don’t devise evil in your hearts
3. What gets in our way or how do we get into the rhythm or habit of just rolling through the motions of ritual versus aligning our hearts and actions to His purpose and will in our lives?
CLOSING CHALLENGE – Build a Temple – encourage or build up (1) person this week…building the temple (God’s people), one interaction at a time. We will talk more about it next week!
