THE THANG:

1) what do you have confidence in?

2) what is it about or why do we as men struggle with pride?

Watched a clip from Thor and spoke about pride and how that can lay waste to our lives and how God is at the center of it all.

Read the following passages referring to pride:

Proverbs 8:13, 11:2, 16:18, 29:23

1 Peter 5:5

1 John 2:16

James 4:6

Read Obadiah – which speaks to God’s divine judgement against ancient Edom (the Israeli line of Esau).

God through Obadiah stated the following:

They were mistreating brothers and sisters amongst the Israeli people and they capitalized on their misfortune and God stated that He would cut them down to size and even though comfortable they were not out of reach from God!

He would govern their wealth and lands to others as foretold in the day of Edom’s destruction!

In this God is speaking to ALL nations, not only Edom, advising that the fate of those too prideful would be the same as Edoms, however for Gods chosen people and those who praise His name, there is a blessing and a place in heaven – the new Jerusalem!

3) so what do we do to combat pride?

– turn to scripture

– Hold each other accountable

– Be transparent with our wives

– Prayer

– Self awareness of the things we struggle with pertaining to sin and pride

– Surround yourself with Godly people

We then read scripture about how to combat pride and how to walk in a manner worthy to that which we have been called!
