THE THANG:

1) what is discipline? Practice of training people to obey rules or code of behavior

2) what is adversity? Resilience in the midst of misfortune

Jesus sets the ultimate example of the Discipline of Adversity – we see this in Hebrews 12:1-3

Read Proverbs 3:11-12

We are reminded – don’t make light of the Lord’s discipline; in other words, take it to heart and don’t lose heart!

It’s a difficult concept to grasp that a God of love Disciplines – we have a tough time seeing His love when times are hard!

Read James 1:2-4

We often equate disciple with punishment versus love

Read Ephesians 6:13-17 – it takes discipline to put on the full armor or God. We need to remember to preach the Gospel to ourselves when we face trials.

Romans 11:33 – “Enduring Hardship” – God knows our plan even if we don’t see it.

Read 1 Peter 5:6 – having an attitude of submission

3) what is the goal of adversity? To pursue Holiness –

Romans 8:28-29 -God produces a harvest of peace & righteousness

Romans 5:3-4 – it can be a painful process – but it’s worth it! Romans 8:18
