THE THANG:
Read 2 Corinthians 3:18
The transformed comes from the Greek word metamorphoomia –
1) what’s that sound like? Metamorphosis reminds us of a butterfly and its journey – starts out being a caterpillar :bug: something that destroys as consumes and turns into a butterfly which pollinates and gives life! Much like our journey with Jesus.
From Justification to sanctification to glorification!
2) what does Paul mean by unveiled face?
He refers to a contrast with Moses and a veiled covenant however post Jesus the veil was torn allowing full access to God through Jesus.
We spoke about a few examples of things that took time, were hard journeys and in some cases life long however were worth it! Examples
– the Sistine Chapel – took Michelangelo 4 years with a few restarts or reworks but the outcome was amazing and beautiful!
– Mount Rushmore – Gutsan Borglum (sculptor) took 14 years to sculpt the monument however had to redo some of the faces based on mistakes or a change in direction and actually his son Lincoln finished the structure after Gutsan died – and today we have an amazing monument.
– Wycliffe Bible Translators – started by William Cameron Townsend in 1896 – he and his family spent their life learning an unwritten language of an indigenous tribe and then putting writing behind it so that they could translate the Bible to it! A life long pursuit to bring God the glory!
3) when you have seen change or transition in your life was it for better or worse? Or what stuck out the most, the good, the easy, or the hard?
What is sanctification?
Read Jeremiah 31:33
Ezekiel 36:26-27
2 Corinthians 5:17
Galatians 2:20
Titus 3:5
4) what is the goal of sanctification? Glorification
Read Romans 8:28
We have seen “transformed” and now “conformed” with root word “form” which means pattern or mold! The word conformed in this passage is referring to a finished product – that the goal when we are one day glorified with Him in heaven!
Read Ephesians 4:24
1 Peter 1:16
We need to recognize that this is a process – we will never see in this life until glorification. “From Glory to Glory”.
Read Galatians 5:17
Romans 7:14-25
We need to hold ourselves accountable to this relationship with Jesus, with our spouses, with our kiddos! We also need to invite others to hold us accountable or travel this journey of life with us.
5) who is responsible for our transformation? The Holy Spirit
Read 1 Thessolonians 5:23-24
Philippians 1:6
Hebrews 13:21
There is a verb used “being” which calls out that this is being done to us by the Holy Spirit but it’s not simply happening to us…we are PARTAKERS!!
Read Philippians 1:7-11
With the outcome being Glory!
Read Ephesians 2:6-7
Hebrews 9:14
1 John 3:2
