THE THANG:
Studied Matthew 22:36-40 – the greatest commands
1) What are some ways that we delight in the Lord?
We read – Deuteronomy 6:1-9, 10:12-13, 11:13, 11:22, 19:9, 30:6, 8, 19-20
We discussed these origin OT passages that showcase not only the what in the command, but the how – scattered through the scriptures are verb that are calls to action around how we love God and each other.
2) How do we love God? What does this look like in our lives?
We discussed practical application in each man’s life and how that may look different for each of us.
3) What about loving our neighbors as ourselves? How do we do this? Why do we do this – what’s our motive?
We read 1 John 4:19-21
4) Why do we, as men, make this so hard?
We discussed two types of Obedience –
– “cruise control” obedience – we have our foot o the accelerator until we reach a speed that we are comfortable with…we might determine this speed based on other believers that we’re surrounded by, perhaps where our comfort level is – then we ease back and relax, and we also find that we are moderatoring obedience based on convenience or family, friends, etc.
– “race-car” obedience – like a race car driver – they are focused on the track, fully committed, pushing the car to it’s limits (in our obedience – following for the Lord), driving with all of our hearts – following God with all of our hearts – not half-hearted or “Luke-warm”.
5) Do we live our lives this way?
Associated passages are as follows:
– Hebrews 12:14
– 2 Peter 1:5-7
– 1 Corinthians 9:24-27
5) why are we here (in this life)? “To glorify the Lord and enjoy Him in this life & throughout eternity!”
We spoke about love being an action but also a motive and it requires action to give it hands & feet?
– 1 Corinthians 13
– Ephesians 5:25
– Matthew 5:44
Let’s also consider that love is a process that we grow in – we develop and mature in it over time!
We can’t forget forgiveness which helps us love ourselves so that we can love others.
Read
– Hebrews 9:14 & 10:2
– Luke 7:47 – we remember to acknowledge our sinfulness, not to point to shame, but to the point of love – realizing I need Jesus and so does everyone else – let’s love ourselves neighbors in that space.
Also remember Faith & Love and how these bring us together!
– Hebrews 11:6
– Galatians 5:6
PRAYER REQUEST: Pray for our hearts as men in the community and as men in our homes!
