Quick sermon from Pastor Matt while all packs hold their block over their head:
“Like a city whose walls are broken down is a man who lacks self-control.” Proverbs 25:28
-All of us lack self-control in some area of our life. Mine is in eating too much. Yours maybe spending too much money. Maybe you are fueled by lust and pornography has you in its grip. Maybe you lack self-control with your children and you lose your temper with them or or your wife. Maybe you have no self-control when you’re at work and you waste time rather being productive.
Regardless, Scripture is clear: wherever you lack self-control you open yourself up to the enemy. It’s like the wall of your city has been broken through. 8 out of 9 parts of your wall may still be standing but if one is broken down that’s where the enemy is going to attack.
Remember the first Jurassic Park? When they are first introduced to the velociraptors Dr. Grant asks the handler if they’re smart. He tells them that they are so smart that they are always testing the fence and never in the same way place twice. They are constantly looking for weaknesses. Satan is like that. He’s always testing your wall looking for ways to invade your life. Wherever you lack self-control is an open doorway for him to come in and destroy your life.
Sounds discouraging right?   Fortunately God has given us a gift:
“For God did not give us a spirit of timidity but a spirit of power, of love, and of self-discipline.” (2 Timothy 1:7)
As believers in Jesus, we have the Holy Spirit living in us. He is the Spirit of self-discipline. He wants to live His life through us and create aelf-control in every area of our lives. We don’t have to try tobsolvd our welf-control issues in our own strength. Newsflash, your lack of self-control is proof you can’t solve those issues on your own. But as we submit to the Spirit daily He begins to live His life through us and empower us to rebuild our wall. This is what we are called to.
