THE THANG:
– Matthew 6:21 “Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
This principle applies to where we spend our time as well. We have so many things going on in our lives, but are we really treasuring the Lord?
– What are some things that you like to do?
– Some things I like to do is run, program, read, etc.
– Aim to tie things back into not overly focusing on them
Spending time on these things is not inherently bad. It is good to have hobbies and things we are passionate about. But we need to be careful that they do not become our treasure.
– Esau and his birthright (Genesis 25:29 – 34)
– What did Esau value most according to this passage?
– The now/himself in that moment
– He did not care for his birthright and what it meant, so he gave it up
Trevin Wax said “Our online habits often lead to a mind-numbing and heart-shriveling state in which the deep and rich truths of the Bible no longer startle us. We lose our appetite for the things of God because we’ve stuffed ourselves so full of information about whatever’s now” (https://www.desiringgod.org/articles/man-cannot-live-on-feeds-alone). I would say this applies to our regular habits as well.
– We need to be careful of things nowadays as we have so many opportunities to feed on information that will lead us away from God
A couple of things that influence our actions and can motivate us: Fame/People; Money
## Open discussion:
– What are ways that we can make sure that we are not treasuring something too much or looking down on the things of the Lord in favor of something else?
– Properly prioritize things
– The analogy of the rocks and sand being put into a jar
– Spend time with the Lord
– Priorities: God, Family, and Everything else
– In that order
